Beating the Heat

A fresh concrete base is spreading along Oak Park Avenue from Pleasant Street to South Boulevard, but summertime isn’t making the pour easy. 

Planners and crews adjust schedules to start concrete work at 6 am.

That’s because temperatures exceeding 85°-90°F accelerate moisture evaporation and make concrete unworkable – which can lead to cracking. Please note that the intersection of Pleasant and Oak Park Avenue will be closed to thru-traffic Monday, July 20, reopening Wednesday, July 22, to install that intersection’s concrete base.

1. Buy $10 in merch, snacks, drinks or whatnot at four different participating businesses.

2. Deposit receipts into a special envelope (available at stores throughout the District).

3. Drop it off at the Oak Park UPS Store, 805 Lake Street.
