Framing a New Perspective

Autumn jumped into gear this week as grading along Oak Park Avenue north of North Boulevard wrapped up and the new road base was framed and poured.

1. Keeping everything on the level. The northern portion of Oak Park Avenue will be completed in sections, since the roadway must remain elevated for pedestrian crossings, notably at ever-busy Hunter Court. In fact, crews will install temporary ramps at Hunter Court in time for this weekend, restoring access for visitors to easily cross the street mid-block.

2. Moving those ‘whatchamacallits.’ Drivers and passersby may notice that the large concrete structures stored alongside South Boulevard during construction are starting to disappear. That’s because these catch basins (use to trap debris, leaves and sediment before rain flows into storm sewers) are being installed underground near the train viaduct as that final section of Oak Park Avenue roadway is excavated.

3. Keep biking to the biz! Don’t forget to collect and turn in your eligible receipts at the Downtown Oak Park UPS Store on or before Sept. 30.
