Ramping Up

That ‘ribbon’ of fresh white concrete now defining Oak Park Avenue from Pleasant Street to South Boulevard is shifting shoppers and diners from sidewalks to ramps.

Temporary ramp crossings mark the latest sign of progress in Stage 3 (of 5). Starting August 3rd, visitors will be guided down the middle of the Avenue, and will use elevated ramps to access local businesses, as concrete pouring and lighting installation continues at the south end of the project. This will allow sidewalks and curbs to be renewed in the same time frame just after the roadbed has cured.

Envision the future and check progress. We’re putting up new signs in the coming weeks to show these colorful renderings of the Avenue’s new treescape, lighting, and brick paver roads and sidewalks. The sign at the corner of Oak Park Avenue and North Boulevard also tracks progress through the five stages leading to the November reopening and block party!

‘Bulls’ stay quiet, but Oak Park sets new Guinness record! Due to poor air quality last weekend, the Hemingway District’s Fun Also Rises event had to cancel the popular outdoor kids’ Running of the Bulls after consulting with the Village’s Public Health Department. But Oak Parkers turned out to help Candycopia set a record for – pucker up – the World’s Largest Sour Candy Tasting!
