Work continues underground—or at least out of sight—in many ways. To ensure “the best-laid plans of mice and men” don’t “go awry” (thanks, Robert Burns!), water main conversion crews continue to work with more than a dozen building owners and local businesses to connect the new main to existing (and new) building services. Building owners have been looking ahead and working with the Village over the past 3-4 months to make informed decisions about water upgrades that anticipate future plans. They’ve been tackling issues like new sprinkler systems and overall water capacity, so roadways won’t have to be dug up again for new water main connections. Upgraded electric service starts south, heading north. This past week electricians began installing ‘sleeves’ of steel conduit to cross roadways for upgraded electric service, traffic signs and lighting. The Oak Park Avenue CTA station is set for an upgrade within a few years. Planning by the Renew the Avenue team includes infrastructure to meet the needs for a station upgrade with less disruption and impact to the new streetscaping upgrades.
