When Pedaling Pays Off

1. Meet our first $250 Bike to the Biz winner! (You can still win, too!) Oak Parker Terry Lavery regularly bikes or walks to the Hemingway District and won the July monthly drawing for $250 in Biker Bucks that he can spend at the 30+ participating businesses. Three more winners will be announced on the first of each month through November. The process is simple, so come join the fun!

2. New pedestrian patterns are fully in effect from Pleasant Street to South Boulevard, as AT&T and Union Pacific crews begin to wrap up their infrastructure improvements along the railroad tracks before excavation and concrete pouring moves north towards Lake Street.

Shoppers and diners are now directed down the middle of the bright-white concrete of Oak Park Avenue and onto ramps leading to Hemingway District storefronts as new sidewalks and curbs are poured. Similar navigation will be implemented from North Boulevard to Lake Street later in the month after utility contractors compete their upgrades.

3. Ding dong! The (old) main is dead! As the last buildings were cut over to the new water main at the end of July, the old main—and any remaining lead pipes that connected to it throughout the Hemingway District—became part of the past. Some parts were more than a century old!
