Family Fun in the District This Saturday

Crews adjusted the work this week so that both South Boulevard and Pleasant Street were not closed to cross traffic at the same time. With concrete work wrapping up this week at the South Boulevard Intersection, the intersection of Pleasant Street and Oak Park Avenue will be closed next week to complete the brick work as originally intended.

1. Bring the Kids! Construction or not, the annual tradition of welcoming local families downtown for Halloween-oriented activities continues this Saturday, Oct. 17. Check out all the details, including the kids’ costume parade kicking off at 10 am, an early childhood resource fair at the library, and special treats and activities throughout the Hemingway District from 10 am – 1 pm. Please join us!

2. ‘Bridging’ north and south. Concrete pouring underneath the train viaduct is well under way, ensuring there’s no ‘missing link’ between North Oak Park Avenue and South Oak Park Avenue. New curbs have been completed, the concrete base course has been poured, and both the west and east sidewalks are set to be completed this week.

3. Last call for local shopping receipts! Bike to the Biz continues through the end of October, but remember – you can submit shopping receipts from the more than 30 participating businesses going back to July 1 (when the promotion began). So check your wallets, purses, backpacks, then complete an envelope/drop receipts off at the downtown Oak Park UPS Store on or before Oct. 31. It’s your last chance to win $250 in Biker Bucks!
