Improvements Worth the “Squeeze”

Permit parking will be temporarily removed on the stretch of South Boulevard between Oak Park and Grove Avenues to facilitate the water main installation. The boulevard will remain open, but westbound traffic Monday-Friday will narrow to a single lane or be detoured for short periods of time to allow for excavation and installation throughout most of May. Why?

It’s all about digging in bigger, better pipes. Water main installation in the Hemingway District continues between South Boulevard and Lake Street along Oak Park Avenue, but also runs west on South (got that? Not east on North) with brand-new, double-the-width pipes to upgrade current flow capacity.
New mid-block ramps add pedestrian crossings within business district. Our construction team created new pedestrian pass-throughs north and south of the tracks along Oak Park Avenue in time to support a busload of ‘Chicagoland crawlers’ enjoying the nationwide celebration of Independent Bookstore Day last Saturday. These new ramps will remain open on weekends (and weekdays as construction permits) to help shoppers and diners visiting the Hemingway District.
