Just yesterday (June 3), crews began making cutovers to Oak Park’s new water main service, a building-by-building process. Fully compliant with new federal and state Safe Drinking Water mandates. Buildings and businesses affected by this construction project will have copper piping all the way to their meters. The Village’s commitment is outlined and explained in its Lead Free Oak Park initiative. Just in time, too: 1890s-era archaeology sprang another leak. Crews rushed to fix water service to businesses on the east side of Oak Park Avenue Friday, May 29, after an old section of water main linked to the village’s long-dismantled water tower (on the site of the current Avenue Garage) gave way.
