Bricklaying Moves Into the Fast Lane

Even as this week is ending wet with a multi-day ‘hydrologic event,’ brick paving continues to advance from sidewalks to the roadway south of the tracks. Excessive rain may occasionally slow the pace, since dryer sand is needed to correctly set and ‘settle’ brick pavers, but an extra masonry crew will be added next week.

1. Looks like bluestone, easy to maintain. Precast concrete pavers may have the natural look and color of natural bluestone, but they handle vehicular traffic loading and are a maintenance-friendly paver stone. That means they’ll have the aesthetic look of a natural material with the added benefit of easy maintenance at a cost savings to the project.

2. Weekend work. For the balance of the Renew the Avenue project, crews may expand their work schedule to include Saturdays, beginning October 3rd. The drilling and pouring of light pole bases is under way from North Boulevard to Lake Street. Once completed, safety ramps will be installed for visitors to access storefronts in that section of Oak Park Avenue.

3. Did you know? The number of public electric vehicle (EV) chargers – those provided by the Village – will expand after completion of the Renew the Avenue.
